Life So Far

This tree is like our marriage, with earth, water and hope we
Thought it had a chance to grow strong roots            But
Now it’s back to springtime, there’s not even one bud and
Like our love, it’s time to face the truth           It won’t
Grow again, we cannot bring it back to life, and
Although our parents taught us love that’s strong can last for life, it won’t
Grow again, and I cannot be your wife          But I
Thank you for the life I’ve had so far

I walk into the house now, it’s cold, empty and bare
Nothing proves that we were ever here         No
Furniture, no paintings, just floors, windows and walls and
Fifteen years are wiped away like tears         And our
Home is gone, we cannot bring it back to life, and
Although our parents taught us love that’s strong can last for life, oh our
Home is gone, and I cannot be your wife       But I
Thank you for the life I’ve had so far

For better or for worse is hard to live by, in
Sickness and in health is quite a test              Still there’s
Freedom in commitment so I chose each day to stay and
Here I stand and watch you walk away         Because your
Love is done, you cannot bring it back to life, and
Although my parents taught me love that’s strong will last for life I see your
Love is done, and I cannot be your wife         But I
Thank you for the life I’ve had, the memories both good and bad, I
Thank you for the life I’ve had so far
